Dr. John Sarno MD is Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine, New York University School of Medicine.
His work was called to my attention early on in my practice. He had discovered a very strong correlation with psychosomatic disorders and chronic pain.
These conditions are not just "in the head". He discovered that a slight oxygen deprivation occurs which causes chronic pain. He calls this TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome).
He claims over 90% success in relieving symptoms of TMS. Before he discovered this principle he was a surgeon. He writes that his success with chronic pain and surgery is little better than placebo.
Like all pioneers his work is controversial and not well accepted in mainstream medicine.
Only about 10% of the patients that he sees will accept his diagnosis of TMS. He often finds that suppressed rage is a major factor in these conditions.
He uses psychological counseling and his results are phenomenal.
It is time for a change in the study of medicine. It is a terrible mistake to consider the body without first taking the mind into account.
