Dr. John Sarno MD is Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine, New York University School of Medicine.
His work was called to my attention early on in my practice. He had discovered a very strong correlation with psychosomatic disorders and chronic pain.

These conditions are not just "in the head". He discovered that a slight oxygen deprivation occurs which causes chronic pain. He calls this TMS (Tension Myositis Syndrome). He claims over 90% success in relieving symptoms of TMS. Before he discovered this principle he was a surgeon. He writes that his success with chronic pain and surgery is little better than placebo. |
Like all pioneers his work is controversial and not well accepted in mainstream medicine.
Only about 10% of the patients that he sees will accept his diagnosis of TMS. He often finds that suppressed rage is a major factor in these conditions.
He uses psychological counseling and his results are phenomenal.
It is time for a change in the study of medicine. It is a terrible mistake to consider the body without first taking the mind into account.
